Once upon a time there was this guy named NIKAJ who had a dream- to put out a many hours long hardcore mix that would start slow and eventually build on itself, eventually speeding away into the ether of a million beats per minute… but how to do this? He is only one man. So he put a call out for more men, and one woman. The Legendary Mixmarathon was born.
The first Mixmarathon occurred on January 1st, 2025 on HCBX, and was spun by NIKAJ (Netherlands), Low Entropy (Germany), DJ Asylum (Scotland), and GabberGirl (USA). It was a live premier event equipped with a chat room which was quickly renamed the Banter Room. It lasted more than six and a half hours, and was called the ‘New Year’s 90’s Madness Mixmarathon’. The theme was all 90’s tracks, starting with an hour of ambient (Low Entropy), moving into techno and acid (NIKAJ). Hardcore techno and hard acid were next (DJ Asylum), followed by gabber (NIKAJ), then terror, finally ending in speedcore (GabberGirl).
It was a fun success, which inspired NIKAJ a few months later to say, “Hey– let’s do that again.” So on June 27th, they did it again.

‘The Summer 90’s Madness Mixmarathon’ came in an hour under the NYD one, had the same theme of 90’s music, but had the added benefit of a 90’s style ‘rave’ video, produced by Low Entropy. Again, Low Entropy led the charge out of the gate with more than an hour of Doomcore and techno. GabberGirl came next with an hour of hard acid, followed by an hour and a half of hardcore and gabber from NIKAJ. The five and half hour long set was concluded by DJ Asylum playing terror, then speedcore.

Mixmarathon number three happened to much fanfare on New Year’s Day 2026. It was the longest yet, clocking in at over seven and a half hours. This time DJ Asylum produced the video, and the Gabber Elders asked a fifth to be their guest DJ, inviting and being accepted by Bohemian. And a new theme is in play– the Gabber Elders and their guest played electronic music produced in the 2000’s that have that 90’s sound. These gabber geezers can’t handle too modern of a sound– so no high falutin’ uptempo, hardstyle, or piep piep kicks. (Those dang kids and their new-fangled “music”.) Get off my lawn!

Listeners of ‘The Gabber Elder’s Old Kuntz New Year’s Retirement Home Mixmarathon Hootenanny’ enjoyed an hour of Slowcore/Doomcore/Industrial (Low Entropy), an hour of Dark Techno/Darkcore (Bohemian), 90 minutes of Hardcore Techno/Hard Acid (GabberGirl), 90 minutes of UK Hardcore/Millenium Hardcore/Breakcore (NIKAJ), two hours of Hardcore/Gabber/Terror (DJ Asylum), ending with 30 minutes of Speedcore (Low Entropy). All stitched together perfectly with knitting needles and ball of yarn, spun expertly by old people.
